Wind Waves and Walleye 

Colin and Crew were rescheduled from late 2023 due to high winds and waves.<div><br></div><div>We head west of the Islands at sunrise knowing we would be eventually be greated with a line of showers that would last about 2 hours.  The back side of the rain had wind that quickly went above 20 mph with stronger gusts.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The Walleye were awesome to Colin, Jeremy, Bob and Sam.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div>Off Shore Tackle Company boards running Bandit Lures and Dead Eye Crank Baits  at 65 back unassisted  and 55 back with 2 oz snap weights.</div><div><br></div><div>Colin captured his 1st Fish Ohio qualifier a 28.5" Walleye.</div><div><br></div><div>Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. What a Hull of Walleye

Greg provided valuable help shaping metal for our home addition project, and as a token of gratitude, I invited him for an exciting fall Walleye fishing experience on Lake Erie. Today, the North winds in Cleveland (CLE) exceeded the forecast, reaching 20 mph with gusts up to 25. Despite the challenging conditions, with waves surpassing 5 feet, the Walleye were voraciously biting. Each catch was filled with Shad, and we achieved success by employing shallow divers with leads spanning from 25 to 60 feet. Lake Erie Class 

Today was a helping day at OSU's Lake Erie Sportfishing Class at Stone Laboratory.  Ashley and David were my students Eric Hirzel Sr. had another pair of anglers.<div><br></div><div>Lake Erie provided an abundance of Walleye for us today.  Being a class we ran multiple programs to shown the variety of methods that can be used to bring Walleye to the boat.</div><div><br></div><div>We started off with Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TruTrip 40s and 50s running spoons. Today's 2 hour Islands and Eyes on BlackH2oDog Charters was a Walleye beatdown.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>Alice, Ella's and Baxter visiting the area from Atlanta wanted an opportunity to catch "a" Lake Erie Walleye. Walleye Dog Days

BJ and John are two of my longest repeat clients.&nbsp;&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>On past outing they asked to fish with one of the BlackH2oDog Crew.  Bos'n was along for today Walleye harvest.</div><div><br></div><div>We have great conversations on our mutual interests in dogs.</div><div><br></div><div>We set our first rod at 7:05 and by 8am we had 15 in the box.  We spent a few more hours having conversations while netting Eyes and setting our Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. Round 2 included Lake Erie 1st timers from Indiana. Father Daughter Walleye

Kevin his wife Lorly and sister Karen were out to catch some.of Lake Erie's finest Walleye. This was an awesome fun crew. Day 3 with Fisher onboard BlackH2oDog Charters.  We had 3 days booked for Walleye with the dogs.<div><br></div><div>After an hour delay  waiting for Scott and Clayton to arrive we were able to leave dock.  We headed between the Islands in search of the Walleye we left Saturday afternoon.  We found marks tight to the bottom and in the upper 10 feet of the water.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>In a couple hours we had half our limit. Windy Walleye Day

Day 2 of bring your dog to work was a delayed start due early morning winds.<div><br></div><div>Robyn, Joe and Luke  got their sealegs early and went right to work sending Off Shore Tackle Company planner boards out and bringing Walleye in</div><div><br></div><div>Caping of the 1st hour was a giant 16 lb Catfish.  This 30 inch stopped the Offshore in its tracks.  We landed 3 Walleye by the time this giant reached the net.</div><div><br></div><div>Our program was all Crawler Harnesses 2oz 40/50 back, TruTrip 50s 28 back and Dipsey 3 setting 22 to 35 back.</div><div><br></div><div>The Fish Hawk Electronics X2 has been extremely useful in maintaining our speed.  Our best speed was .08 mph up to 1.3 mph.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Not wanting to drill holes we are using SeaSucker Marine vacuum mount for our Fish Hawk. Today was bring your dog to work day BlackH2oDog Charters.  Fisher was ready early and was the first to the boat today.<div><br></div><div>We meet Josh and Ryan and headed to the border to pull crawler harnesses.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>We had a bit of a slow start in the gin clear water.  We picked away but no real pattern.  We made a run to visit the Pelicans and it was game on.  We dialed these fish in at 2 oz 40 and 50 back with the dipsey 3 setting at 28 back. TruTrip 50 was working  at 32 back.</div><div><br></div><div>Josh and Ryan made quick work of running the Off Shore Tackle Company planner boards.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Our speed was 1.5. mph. Family Walleye 

Received a 10pm booking for our Saturday afternoon charter.<div><br></div><div>Family Time</div><div>Father and Son Joe and Joseph along with brother/sun in law Zack and Kristian came aboard with their drift and cast gear.  I suggested they didn't need that as we are on a good program for our post-spawn Walleye.  They wanted to give casting a try. We headed out of West Harbor to a South Passage rock pile holding Walleye. It was slow but they caught 3 released 1.  With an hour to go I suggested the let me drop the Off Shore Tackle Company planner boards in so they could leave with a respectable amount of Lake Erie Walleye.  We quickly dropped in 3 boards each side.   We soon had a 25 inch Walleye on boards.  We picked away until we had another 4 and our time was up.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div>Sea Sick Frog Bandits 70 back. 47th Anniversary Walleye 

Steve and Maureen put an Island in their life for their 47th anniversary.  We headed West of the Bass Islands to  find their Walleye.<div><br></div><div>We had a nice pick for the 1st 6 Walleye and when the light rain moved in our bite changed.  We rotated a lot of baits to find color pattern.  Ultimately  Blue Chrome PWC and Spotted Frog Bandits were the winners.</div><div><br></div><div>PWCs 40 to 55 back.  Bandits 70 to 90. TruTrip 50s 28 back.  The Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TruTrip 50s.&nbsp;&nbsp;Today we ran Bill Lewis PWC on one side and Reef Runner Tackle Company 900s on the other.  Bandits were also mixed in.&nbsp;&nbsp;22 to 45 back on PWCs.80 and 90 back on RR and Bandits.When the sun popped out, Bandit 25 back took some nice Walleye.At one point we had a double that turned into 5 on by the time the last one was landed.We all reeled today. We did a little catch and release after the limits were filled.

Father Daughter Walleye Day

Chris his daughter Jen and Reese jumped aboard BlackH2oDog Charters for their Lake Erie Walleye trolling experience.   After reeling mine we got a little catch and release time before heading in.

We put the Islands between us and the rising sun and went to the Reef complex.

From the very beginning they were put to work running the Off Shore Tackle Company planner boards. We had a few fire drills and a few lost fish but by the end of their day we were catching and releasing Walleye.

They did a great job keeping the Walleye coming in and the boards going out.

TruTrip 50s on the corners took the biggest Walleye on a Ripplin Redfin 28 back.

Bandits and SPRO U.S.A  120s running 35 to 80 back. Speed was 1.4 to 1.7 mph.

Birthday Walleye 

BlackH2oDog Charters 2nd group was a birthday trip for Brandon, arranged by his girlfriend.  Brandon brought along his stepfather Charlie and his uncle Brian.

We had a short window of opportunity on this 4 hour outing.

We headed between the islands and found great marks immediately on our Raymarine Axiom.  A quick fire set of instructions on using the Off Shore Tackle Company planner boards and we soon had our boards and Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TruTrip 50s working.

The outer board with a Bandit 50 back took a nice 24" Walleye.  Soon another came on TruTrip 50 32 back with a SB Reaper.

Then nothing... So with 2 hrs to go we made a big move west. This time the  boards went out quickly and we had    a steady pick of Walleye for the next 2 hours.

Started of the morning in a still foggy misty morning.  Picked up David and Samantha along with David and Deanna, David's parents.

After a quick stop for an island photo we set lines West of the Bass Islands.

We started quickly with 2, then 4 and our bite turned into a slow pick.  High  baits would go followed by a deep bait.  One @ 2.3 mph then one @ 1.6.  Hard to established a pattern so we worked what we had.  We eventually settled into Bandits 50 to 80 back with Bill Lewis PWC at 50 back.  The TruTrip 50s 35 back also came to life today.

These first time Lake Erie anglers pushed through the tough times and learned to run the Off Shore Tackle Company planner boards.

Anniversary Walleye 

Julie and Rodney reached out for a Lake Erie Walleye Charter with BlackH2oDog Charters to celebrate their Anniversary.

This is their first time on Lake Erie and they ran the Off Shore Tackle Company planner board like seasoned pros.

We headed West of the Islands in search of Walleye.

Our 1st Walleye came on Kahki 30 back fish hit as I showed them how to attach boards.  This fish hit at 3.2 mph before I set in my trolling bags.  

Our Walleye came on Bandits today.  30 to 100 back.  1.7 to 2.1 mph.

We had a few slow stretches; but a triple turning into a quad will be burned in their memory.

Julie and Rodney work made it easy to take pictures of them enjoying their day on Lake Erie.

AM Walleye 

Returning customers Dusty, Paul and Bobby   kicked-off the 2023 Lake Erie Walleye season with BlackH2oDog Charters.

The day was beautiful, but recent high winds, full moon and stiff East winds made us work for every fish.

We ran a mix of Bandits, Rapala Deep Husky Jerks and the new Bill Lewis PWC. Bandits 50 to 65 and DHJ 65 were best, the PWC did not produce.  

Speed was 1.5 mph early and 1.7 later. 

Bobby, Paul and Dustin after a quick refresh on how we attached our Off Shore Tackle Company planner boards they ran the back of the boat and were soon setting and netting  their Walleye.

They left with a cooler full of Walleye after a great day of catching and conversation on the water.
